To contact the Police in an EMERGENCY telephone 999 and ask for POLICE.

Translation services are available via a language telephone line.

An emergency is described as:
A threat to life – by another person or by an injury
When there is a need for immediate police action

The operator will need the following information:

Your name, address and telephone number
Where the incident is taking place – be as specific as possible
What is happening

If your call is NOT an emergency, telephone 0845 408 7000.

Your call will be answered – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There may be a delay at busy times but it will be answered. If your call requires advice, or if you wish to report a crime or incident that does not require an immediate response, your call will be dealt with by the Public Service Desk.

You can also go to your local Police Station or approach any police officer to report any incident.

 ‘Hate Crime’
If you, or someone you know, has been abused because of your nationality or your sexuality, telephone 0845 408 7000 and tell the operator that you want to report a ‘hate crime’, and you will be directed to someone who can help you.

Please do not be afraid to report this kind of crime to the police.  They deal with it regularly and can offer you help and support.  You will be taken seriously.  By reporting hate crime you may be able to prevent these crimes from happening to someone else.
